One of my favorite things about Oaxaca is the exuberance of the town square (Zocalo). When I visited, it was Christmas time and during the day I explored the sites with two friends. Most evenings, they would drop me off at my hotel and I would head for the Zocalo, spending several hours watching parades, musicians, street performers and visiting with the people. I was often amazed I was walking around, by myself, at midnight, with no doubt about my safety. I don’t know what my friends did in the evenings, but they were always surprised when I wanted to sleep late in the mornings!

Besides the Zocalo, I loved the local markets and the colors! Oh! and the Mezcal! I yearn to go back as soon as possible!
